Over the next few weeks the taxman will be sending more than 40,000 letters to non VAT-registered businesses that they believe have a turnover in excess of £73,000. The letters will tell businesses that if they register for VAT by 30th September they will face a reduced penalty of 10% of unpaid VAT.
